Consider the type of house you would like to design. Use the skills you have developed in Revit and add to your arsenal based on your own creative ideas. You may use massing, topography from Google Earth, or anything else you would like to challenge yourself to learn. You must incorporate at least one LEED criteria into your project, but the rest is up to you. Be creative and think outside of the box.
What is LEED?
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rate System encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria.
|
LEED is a third-party certification program and internationally accepted benchmark for design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. It provides building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance.
LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health:

- Sustainable development
- Water efficiency
- Energy efficiency
- Materials selection
- Indoor environmental quality
Constraints
Must Have (Minimally)
.....Your project can be anything you wish (a stand alone property or part of a larger building) It can be located anywhere you like. If you are designing your abode as a part of a larger complex, you will need to design some of that as well. Be prepared to defend the LEED category you are including. It may not be visible everywhere, but it should be annotated.

Planning
Create a sub page of your 'house' page on your website. Name the page: Planning. Place a title at the top of the page. The Planning you create will need the following sections.
General
Describe the type of home you would like to create? What is the outside style? What is the inside style? What materials will you be using for the outside and inside finishes? How many occupants will be able to live in this home? In this section, you could talk about the client and their needs. Some examples are: hobbies, pets, entertainment, work from home, flexible areas. Do you need to think about any special storage areas? Please choose at least one of the 5 LEED categories above to incorporate into your project. Explain how you intend to do this.
Site
Describe the landscape in the area of your site. What can you take advantage of? Are there any views? What is the orientation of the sun? Are there outdoor living spaces? What is the vehicle access? Is your building on the ground? Is it a part of a larger building?
Budget
After doing some research, give an approximate budget for this project, including land costs. This does not need to be itemized, but should be based on property values in the location you choose and approximate value of the house in that location.
Timeline
Divide your project into sections and give a timeline for completion of each section. There are 21 days left before the end of the semester. We will be spending at least one more class period with the Art class across the hall so we have approximately 19 days for this project. No late assignments will be accepted due to restrictions from the office at the change of term. Consider that the following will need to be marked in this order and set deadlines within the 19 days:
- Design Brief - posted on new page website
- Research based on design brief - inspirational pictures and thoughts - posted on website
- Roof Assignment - posted on new page on website - we will be doing this in class
- Floor plan(s) - exported with traffic patterns added -- posted on website
- Materials created for this project (material browser picture) posted on website
- Presentation Floor plan(s) with room labels and room legend posted on website
- Elevation Views - one working view and one presentation view posted on website
- One or more outside rendering with added background image posted on website
- At least 4 inside renderings posted on website
- A reflection written on your website
