Problem Statement
A fire has destroyed everything but the basement foundation,
front stairs, and building pad of your client’s bungalow. No one was hurt, but the entire house must be
re-built. The client has asked you to
re-design this single floor dwelling for a family of four. Although the original house had a standard
ceiling height, the client has asked for a raised ceiling environment in the
common areas on the main floor (living room, dining room, and kitchen). Below is a floor plan view of the basement
level with dimensions. Measurements are
from the outside of each wall. You must
use these dimensions to build your basement level and design your main floor
level.
Requirements
These are the required rooms and areas:
You must add furniture, plumbing fixtures (sinks, bathtub, toilets etc.), casework and appliances in appropriate places, windows, doors and lighting. You may also add finishing touches such as baseboards and a tiled backsplash (kitchen). You may use any roof type, but there must be an overhang of 18” – 24”.
The following image shows an elevation view and reveals that the concrete front stairs remain intact as well as the footings, building pad, and foundation walls. Your design needs to match the specifications in this document before you begin on your main floor.
- 3 Bedrooms (1 master bedroom, two smaller bedrooms)
- 2 Bathrooms (one is an ensuite off the master bedroom)
- Kitchen
- Living Room
- Dining Room
- Stairs to the basement and stairs or a step to the back entrance
- Closets (in all bedrooms, at the rear entrance, at the front entrance, as well as a pantry and broom closet). The basement level can remain undeveloped with no furniture or plumbing.
- Electrical light switches
